A tribute to Tux

This journey that we are on, can take us in many different directions, new insights, connections, experiences, and even changed circumstances beyond what we imagine.

Tux

One week ago, our family went through an emotional experience - the loss of our beloved dog, Tux. Even though we knew this day would come, we didn't anticipate that it would be "that" day.

Nothing really prepares us for the death of a pet. With a lifespan of 10+ years, it's very likely that they'll leave this earth before we do, and unfortunately, all owners will have to face this inevitable day of saying goodbye.

We have our work, our family, and our friends, but our dogs only have us. We're never fully aware of how a pet has been part of our lives until they are gone.

Dog owners know the truth: Your pet is never "just a dog" they're much more than that. We are their world and they quickly become part of ours. They're irreplaceable

The beautiful things that we love in life are the things we miss when they're gone. Tux was a devoted dog and always the first to greet me at the door.

He loved to run and we covered a lot of miles together over the years.  As he got older and could no longer run the distances, we'd go for walks.  At the end of a training session, he was right there waiting by the door to go on a "cool down walk".

There are many things that I miss about Tux and sharing stories of him is a way to cherish the memories.

One of my favorite memories of him was when we were at the lake and I asked him to go find a stick to play fetch. Tux came back with a huge tree limb!

When he was younger; one October day, we quickly learned how much he liked pumpkins. The kids were little then and had each picked out a small pumpkin for Halloween. We set them on the kitchen counter; left the house for a couple of hours and when we came back, the kids noticed the pumpkins were missing. After looking all around the house, we found what was left - 2 small pumpkin stems and Tux lying beside them.

Tux loved to sing and would join us whenever we'd sing Happy Birthday. No other song got him barking more than, Happy Birthday.

I could share many more stories - 14 years is a lot of good memories. One thing's for certain, we'll never find another dog like Tux. He was one of a kind who brought fun and joy into our lives.

We lost a best friend, a faithful companion, and a cherished family member. We are so very appreciative and grateful to our closest friends, family and co-workers who have been wonderfully caring and sympathetic during this time. Thank you.

We're still going through the process of coping, but we're remembering all the good things we loved about Tux and what he taught us along the way.

When the time is right, our family will one day, open our hearts and home again. Until then...Rest in peace, sweet Tux'ers. You will be dearly missed, but will never be far from our hearts.

To never know the love of a dog,
is to miss the best thing life has to give.
