Open Lane
Have you ever had one of those days in where traffic lights are all green when you're driving, or there's not a wait line ordering coffee, or at the grocery store? Those kind of days seem to make everything go smoother, right? ...I agree. The place were I practice my swim can often get crowded, and not everyone there is training for a race. You have your frequent swim team swimmers; private group swimmers; leisurely swimmers (who do a few laps and, unfortunately, rest in the middle of a swim lane); non-swimmers who just visit and sit on the lounge chairs; or, families who assume a lap pool is a place to bring your kids to play at one end with their pool noodles toys. Needless to say, everyone's mindset is different. If you're not an early riser and have to get in a swim mid-day, you'll more often than not, encounter a few of the above swimmers.
